Over the years, I have seen many parents spent thousands of dollars to engage private tutors to coach their children. Yes, unfortunately, living in Singapore crazy paper chase society, the only solution if you want your children to excel beyond what they can learn in class is to get your own tutors. They come to your house and charge a higher rate compared to that of tution centres.
What I want to highlight to parents is to check a little background of the tutors first. Frequent checks from your children how the lesson was conducted as compared to that of classroom session. Follow up on what materials are used or what assessment books tutors recommend. Monitor if tutors used their hand phones too often. The time is for the student and not for the tutors to do other things. However, I leave you to judge what are the acceptable calls.
Recommendation is the best but not always safe proof.
